University Junior High School was a Mission Revival-style building on the University of Texas at Austin campus that opened in 1933 as a collaborative facility serving both as a public junior high school and laboratory school for UT's Department of Education. The structure, which had previously housed the School of Social Work, operated in its dual capacity until 1967, when it was closed and transferred entirely to the university. The school gained historical significance as one of Austin's earliest desegregated institutions, contributing notably to the city's civil rights record. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001, the building later served as home to the UT Child Development Center and the Steve Hicks School of Social Work. In 2024, it was designated a State Antiquities Landmark by the Texas Historical Commission following preservation advocacy efforts, but the university obtained a demolition permit in September 2024 and razed the building to make way for an athletic complex.
