Urnes Stave Church stands on the eastern shore of the Lustrafjorden in Luster Municipality, Norway, directly across from the village of Solvorn. Built in the 12th century, with parts of its timber construction dating to the latter half of the 11th century, it is among Norway's oldest stave churches. Its long basilica plan, with cylindrical columns and semicircular arches, reflects medieval Christian design, while its north portal gives the Urnes style its name and draws on Norse mythological imagery. The church has been owned by Fortidsminneforeningen since 1881 and was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979.
