Užava Lighthouse stands on the Latvian coast of the Baltic Sea, in Užava Parish, on an isolated 28-metre sand dune. Built in 1879 and rising 19 metres, it is a national industrial monument. Waves continually erode the dune, so the site has needed repeated defences: a dense log wall in 1910, later fir-tree baskets filled with gravel and large boulders, and now rock armour protecting its base.
