Villa Mairea is a modernist villa designed by Alvar Aalto and his wife Aino Aalto for the wealthy industrialist couple Harry and Maire Gullichsen in Noormarkku, Pori, Finland, constructed between 1938 and 1939. Commissioned as an experimental house, Aalto seized the opportunity to synthesize the architectural themes that had long engaged him but had found limited expression in completed buildings. The house represents a landmark achievement in organic architecture, integrating natural materials and forms in dialogue with the landscape. Today it stands as one of Aalto's most significant works and, along with twelve other Aalto buildings, was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in July 2026.
