Located on the outskirts of Paris in Poissy, Villa Savoye is a modernist masterpiece designed by Le Corbusier and his cousin Pierre Jeanneret, with interiors by Charlotte Perriand, and constructed between 1928 and 1931 in reinforced concrete. Originally a country retreat for the Savoye family, the villa exemplifies Le Corbusier's influential "five points" for modern construction and stands as one of the most iconic examples of the International style. The house passed to French state ownership in 1958 and was designated an official historical monument in 1965—a remarkable honor while Le Corbusier still lived. After comprehensive restoration between 1985 and 1997, it reopened to the public and remains accessible year-round through the Centre des monuments nationaux. In 2016, Villa Savoye was inscribed as part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "The Architectural Work of Le Corbusier," recognizing its foundational significance in twentieth-century architecture.
