The Visconti Castle in Pavia, Lombardy, is a Gothic medieval castle designed by Bartolino da Novara and built after 1360 by Galeazzo II Visconti, Lord of Milan. Used as a sovereign residence by Galeazzo and his son Gian Galeazzo, it impressed Petrarch, who called it "an enormous palace in the citadel." A 16th-century artillery attack destroyed a wing and two towers, and today the castle houses the Pavia Civic Museums.
