The Waag in Alkmaar is a Gothic weigh house built in 1603 and now designated as a Rijksmonument. Located on the Waagplein, the building hosts the Dutch Cheese Museum and tourist information office, and serves as the setting for the famous weekly cheese market held on the square from April through mid-September. The tower features a carillon played both by a carillonneur and automatically on the quarters, as well as an automated mechanical display of knights on horseback with a trumpeter.
