Washington National Cathedral, formally the Cathedral Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, is an Episcopal cathedral at Massachusetts and Wisconsin Avenues in northwest Washington, D.C. Its Neo-Gothic design is closely modeled on English Gothic of the late fourteenth century. Construction began in 1907 with the foundation stone laid in the presence of President Theodore Roosevelt, and the cathedral was formally completed in 1990. It is the second-largest church building in the United States and is the seat of the presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church.
