The White House was a plantation on the Pamunkey River near the present-day community of White House in New Kent County, Virginia. Its original mansion was built by Colonel John Lightfoot III just before 1700, and the estate later passed to the Custis family. Martha Dandridge Custis held her wedding to George Washington in one of the mansion's rooms on January 6, 1759. Union troops burned the second house during the Seven Days Battles in 1862, and the third burned in 1880.
