The William G. LeDuc House, located at 1629 Vermillion Street in Hastings, Minnesota, is a Carpenter Gothic residence completed in 1866 and now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Built by William Gates LeDuc, a Civil War veteran who later served as U.S. Commissioner of Agriculture under President Hayes, the home was designed after plans featured in Andrew Jackson Downing's *Cottage Residences*. LeDuc, an attorney who arrived in Minnesota from Ohio in 1850, received the land as compensation for legal services and constructed the house with his wife Mary between 1862 and 1866, moving in during August 1865 while work continued. The estate represents an unusually complete example of Downing's influential Gothic Revival style and sits on property that includes wheat farms and a grist mill on the Vermillion River. Vacant for decades after the Minnesota Historical Society acquired it in the late 1950s, the house was transferred to the City of Hastings in 2005, and a $1.2 million restoration partnership with the Dakota County Historical Society returned it to its original appearance.
