Located at 105 S. Van Buren Street in Marion, Illinois, the Williamson County Jail is a Prairie School structure that served as the county's detention facility from 1913 to 1971. The building housed prisoners connected to three major violent episodes of the 1920s: the Herrin massacre, the Klan War, and gang warfare between the Shelton Brothers and Charles Birger's organization. Now operating as a history museum, the jail was recognized for its architectural and historical significance with listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
