Yedikule Fortress, known in Turkish as the "Fortress of the Seven Towers," stands in the Yedikule neighbourhood of Fatih, Istanbul, Turkey. Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II commissioned it in 1458 by adding three new towers and fully enclosing a section of the ancient Walls of Constantinople, including the twin towers of the Roman Golden Gate. It became known as the site of a royal dungeon whose notable prisoners inspired centuries of legends and art.
