The former Young Men's Christian Association Building stands on Pearl Street in Albany, New York, designed in Romanesque Revival style by architect Albert W. Fuller and constructed in the 1880s. The structure incorporated an adjacent building and received a rear addition during the 1920s. At its opening, it housed the first gymnasium in upstate New York and one of the country's earliest indoor swimming pools, and subsequently served as the venue for the first basketball game played outside Springfield College, where the sport was invented. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, the building was further recognized as a contributing property when the Downtown Albany Historic District was designated two years later.
