The Cistercian Abbey of Zbraslav, founded by King Wenceslaus II in 1292 near Prague, was one of the most significant monastic establishments of the Cistercian Order in medieval Bohemia. Serving as the royal necropolis for the last members of the Přemyslid dynasty, the monastery underwent architectural transformations spanning Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque styles, with notable Baroque work by Jan Santini Aichel. The abbey gained lasting historical importance through Peter of Zittau, its most celebrated abbot (died 1339), whose *Chronicon Aulae Regiae* remains a primary source for fourteenth-century Bohemian history. The monastery also preserves the Madonna of Zbraslav, a distinguished Gothic painting from the 1340s. Abolished in 1789 by Emperor Joseph II, the complex survives today as a national cultural monument of the Czech Republic.
