Frequently asked

Does it work without a connection?

The atlas does. Search, filters, saved lists and every page work with no signal, signed in or not. Three things need one: the base map, the photographs and the longer descriptions.

Why is a photo missing?

About one building in twenty has none on Wikimedia Commons yet. Where an architect or style has no portrait, the app shows one of their buildings and captions it as such.

Where does the information come from?

Buildings, architects and styles from Wikidata (public domain). Descriptions from Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0). Photographs from Wikimedia Commons, each credited to its photographer.

Something is wrong about a building

Corrections made at Wikidata or Wikipedia flow into the next update, and help everyone rather than only this app. Or email me and I will look.

How do I share a list?

Open it and tap share, or press and hold it in the Saved tab. The link holds only the list's name and its buildings. If tapping it does not open the app, copy the whole message and use Paste a shared list.

The app is using a lot of storage

Photographs are cached after you view them. About → Storage shows how much and clears it. The atlas itself is a fixed size.

How do I turn location off?

iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Strollie. The app only asks when you tap the locate button, and it never leaves your device.

Accounts

Do I need an account?

No. The whole atlas works signed out and nothing in the app is behind a sign-in prompt. An account is optional and does one thing: it carries your saved lists to your other devices.

What does signing in do?

Sign in with Apple is the only method, so there is no password, and you can use Hide My Email. Your lists then sync, and a tour gets an owner so it survives reinstalling the app. Tours stay private unless you share one. Signing out changes nothing on the server or on your device.

How do I delete my account?

Settings → Account → Delete Account, in the app. You do not have to email anyone to ask. It deletes rather than deactivates and takes effect immediately: the account, the lists and tours synced to it, and every session. We also ask Apple to withdraw this app's access to your Apple ID; if that one step cannot complete automatically, everything is still deleted and the app shows you how to finish it in iOS Settings. The app keeps working without an account, and the lists on your device stay until you delete them there.

Privacy

No analytics, no tracking, no advertising, no third-party SDKs. With an account, the server holds an identifier from Apple, an email address if Apple sends one, and the lists and tours you save. Signing in also carries Apple's App Attest, a hardware proof that the app is genuine, so bulk sign-ups can be turned away; its key identifier is stored only as a one-way hash.
