Built in 1906 in Muskogee, Oklahoma—a year before the state's admission to the Union—the A.W. Patterson House exemplifies the Richardsonian Romanesque style through its imposing limestone construction and dramatic architectural vocabulary. Perched on a hill near downtown at the intersection of 14th Street and West Okmulgee, the residence displays hallmark features of the style: massive stone walls with cavernous door and porch openings, bands of straight-topped windows, and characteristic arches punctuated by carefully cut voussoirs. The house was recognized for its architectural significance and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
