Built in 1880 in Oran, Algeria, the Abdallah Ibn Salam Mosque was originally constructed as the Great Synagogue of Oran, the largest synagogue in Africa at its time. Also known as the Temple Israélite, the building was designed in the Moorish Revival architectural style and stood on Boulevard Joffre, now Boulevard Maata Mohamed El Habib. It was subsequently converted to its current use as a mosque.
