Opened to the public in June 2009, the Acropolis Museum in Athens is a modern archaeological museum designed by architects Michael Photiadis and Bernard Tschumi in a minimalist idiom. Built from reinforced concrete, marble, glass, and steel, it houses artifacts spanning the Greek Bronze Age through Roman and Byzantine periods, all retrieved from the Acropolis and its surrounding slopes. The museum displays more than 4,250 objects across 14,000 square metres and is notably constructed over the ruins of Roman and early Byzantine Athens, integrating the site's layered history into its very foundation.
