Al-Akbar Mosque is a national mosque in Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia, and the second largest mosque in the country by capacity. Conceived in 1995 and completed in 2000, it was designed by the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology. The structure spans 22,300 square meters with dimensions of 147 by 128 meters, dominating the landscape beside the Surabaya-Gempol Highway. Its most striking feature is an egg-shaped dome rising approximately 27 meters, supported by four smaller blue domes and accompanied by a 99-meter minaret—the height an homage to the 99 names of Allah. The mosque's interior boasts Indonesia's largest mihrab, set within vast, soaring chambers. Construction was interrupted by the 1997 Asian financial crisis but resumed in 1999, with President KH. Abdurrahman Wahid inaugurating the completed mosque on November 10, 2000.
