The Bakiriyya Mosque in Sana'a, Yemen, was built around 1596–97 by Ottoman governor Hasan Pasha during the Ottoman occupation of the region. Following the Ottoman withdrawal from Yemen in 1626, the mosque deteriorated significantly. It remained in poor condition until the Ottomans returned to Sana'a in 1878, when the structure underwent comprehensive restoration. The mosque exemplifies Islamic architecture of the Ottoman period in the Arabian Peninsula.
