The Albert Carlton Estate in Wauchula, Florida, is a historic house built in 1903 as a Queen Anne style residence for Albert Carlton and his wife, Martha McEwen Carlton. Originally a two-and-a-half-story structure with distinctive twin towers and white clapboard siding, the building featured a wraparound veranda on its north and west elevations and a wood shingled roof. Hurricane damage and deterioration prompted significant alterations in 1946: the twin towers were removed and the main facade was remodeled in the Colonial Revival style that now characterizes the building. Three additional rooms were added in 1987. The main block and interior of the 1903 structure remain substantially intact. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991, the estate stands as an example of early-twentieth-century Colonial Revival architecture and reflects the legacy of the Carlton family, prominent Florida citrus growers and ranchers.
