The Altes Rathaus occupies the Bonner Marktplatz in Bonn's city center, a four-storey Rococo structure begun in 1737 and substantially completed by around 1780 under the direction of electoral court architect Michael Leveilly. The facade displays seven window axes beneath a gambrel roof with dormers, characteristic of the period's refined aesthetic. Beyond its primary role as the seat of municipal administration, the building is renowned for its gilded perron (ceremonial staircase) on the market square, which has hosted numerous significant civic occasions and appearances by notable figures throughout Bonn's history. Now protected as an architectural heritage monument in North Rhine-Westphalia, it remains a central landmark.
