Aruchavank, the Cathedral of Aruch, stands on a rocky plateau at the western foot of Mount Aragats in the village of Aruch, Armenia. Known also as Surb Grigor, this medieval Armenian church was commissioned by Prince Grigor Mamikonian and his wife Heghine between 661 and 682 AD, as documented in wall inscriptions and historical manuscripts. The complex includes both the cathedral and an adjoining residential palace. Architecturally, it ranks among the most important and largest Armenian churches of the Middle Ages, exemplifying the classical Armenian architectural tradition.
