The Barco Law Building, a six-story academic structure on the University of Pittsburgh campus, opened in January 1976 as home to the university's School of Law. Designed by the architectural firm Johnstone, Newcomer and Valentour, the building is a classic example of brutalist architecture, its massive concrete forms characteristic of the style's bold, geometric aesthetic. Built at a cost of $8.5 million, it was formally dedicated on May 1, 1976, and continues to serve as a major facility for legal education in Pittsburgh.
