The Sacramento Hall of Justice, completed in 1917, stands as a premier local expression of Beaux-Arts Classicism in Sacramento, California. Designed by the architectural firm Shea & Lofquist, the building was conceived in response to the City Beautiful movement that swept through early twentieth-century America. While local architect Rudolph Herold had sought the contract, Shea & Lofquist ultimately received the commission, but with the requirement that their design harmonize with Herold's nearby Sacramento County Courthouse located at Seventh and I streets. The structure was recognized for its historical significance and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
