The California State Capitol in Sacramento is the seat of the California state government and houses the chambers of the legislature, comprising the assembly and senate, as well as the governor's office. Designed by Reuben S. Clark in the Neoclassical style, with Greek Revival and Palladian elements, the building was completed between 1861 and 1874. Situated at the west end of Capitol Park and the east end of the Capitol Mall, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973 and remains a California Historical Landmark. The California State Capitol Museum occupies the grounds of the capitol complex.
