Located in Lima's Historic Centre, the Basilica and Convent of Santo Domingo is a Catholic religious complex founded in the 1530s under the patronage of Our Lady of the Rosary. The compound houses the relics of Rose of Lima and Martin de Porres, two venerated figures in the Catholic tradition. Of significant historical importance, it served as the birthplace of the University of San Marcos in the 16th century, which holds the distinction of being Peru's first university and the oldest in the Americas. The complex was designed by Manuel d'Amat i de Junyent and features Rococo architectural elements, reflecting the ornamental sensibilities of its era.
