Bayterek is a 105-metre observation tower and monument located on Nurjol Boulevard in Astana, Kazakhstan's capital since 1997. Designed by architect Akmyrza Rustembekov and British architect Norman Foster, the structure takes its name from the Kazakh word for "tall poplar tree." Rising as an emblematic symbol of post-independence Kazakhstan, Bayterek has become a popular tourist attraction for both international visitors and local Kazakhs, embodying the aspirations of the newly established capital city.
