Binbirkilise, a district in Karaman Province in south-central Turkey, preserves some fifty Byzantine church ruins scattered across the northern slopes of the volcano Karadağ. Located roughly 30 kilometers north of Karaman city, the site encompasses settlements at Madenşehri, Üçkuyu, and Değle in what was the medieval region of Lycaonia. Despite its evocative name—meaning "Thousand and One Churches"—the actual number of surviving structures is considerably smaller, yet the concentration of Byzantine religious architecture remains remarkable, offering substantial evidence of the region's Christian heritage during the Byzantine period.
