Birkenwerder is a railway station in the town of Birkenwerder, Brandenburg, serving the Berlin Northern Railway with both S-Bahn and Deutsche Bahn long-distance services. Completed in 1924, the station exemplifies New Objectivity, an architectural style prominent in Weimar-era Germany. The facility features dual electrification systems—DC via the third rail for S-Bahn trains and AC via overhead lines for long-distance services. A notable protected structure, the "Rote Brücke" (red bridge), a pedestrian crossing over the tracks, remains an integral part of the station complex. Following German reunification, the station became a significant junction point: in May 1992, S1 service was extended northward to Hohen Neuendorf and Oranienburg, while the former East Berlin line (now the S8) was truncated to terminate there.
