Built in 1803 in Hyderabad, the British Residency (also known as Koti Residency) is a Palladian mansion commissioned by James Achilles Kirkpatrick, who served as British Resident to the princely state from 1798 to 1805. Designed by Lieutenant Samuel Russell of the Madras Engineers, the structure features a classical portico and follows the villa style of Palladianism, drawing architectural parallels to the near-contemporary White House in the United States. Originally an opulent private residence, the building now functions as part of Osmania University College for Women and operates as a museum open to visitors by prior online booking. It has been recognized as a heritage structure by INTACH and was included in the World Monuments Fund's 2025 World Monuments Watch list.
