The Brown Building is a ten-story Moderne office and residential tower completed in 1938 at the southwest corner of 8th Street and Colorado Street in Downtown Austin, Texas. Standing 137 feet tall, it was developed by businessman and philanthropist Herman Brown and became home to several significant twentieth-century enterprises, including the Lyndon Johnson family's holding corporation, the Texas Broadcasting Corporation (KTBC), and the engineering firm Brown & Root. During World War II, KTBC's operations in the building numbered future Texas governor John Connally among its staff alongside humorist Cactus Pryor. The building was converted to high-end lofts in the early 2000s and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.
