Built in 1566 by the legendary Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan, the Büyükçekmece Caravanserai stands in Büyükçekmece as a fine example of Ottoman caravanserai architecture. Designed to shelter merchants and travelers along the trade routes of the Ottoman Empire, the structure reflects Sinan's characteristic mastery of functional design and austere elegance. Like other caravanserais of its era, it provided secure lodging, storage, and facilities for merchants and their goods during long journeys, serving as a vital node in the empire's commercial network.
