The California Lighthouse stands on a limestone plateau at Hudishibana on Aruba's northwestern tip, near Arashi Beach and the Sasariwichi dunes. Built around 1914–1916 from rubble, lime, and cement, this 30-meter structure is the tallest building in Aruba and was constructed to prevent maritime disasters following the 1891 wreck of the British steamship S.S. California, which inspired its name. Designated a cultural heritage monument, the lighthouse underwent restoration in May 2016 to mark the centennial of its completion.
