Cape Hatteras Light, located on Hatteras Island in the Outer Banks near Buxton, North Carolina, stands as the tallest lighthouse in the United States at 210 feet from base to tip. Originally constructed in 1802 and subsequently relocated twice to combat coastal erosion, the structure has been rebuilt and reinforced with brick and concrete to withstand the dynamic coastal environment. Its distinctive semi-unique pattern has made it one of the most recognizable and celebrated lighthouses in America. The lighthouse is now part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore and holds multiple designations including National Historic Landmark status and listing on the National Register of Historic Places, reflecting its significance both as a vital navigational aid and an iconic American landmark.
