Central Presbyterian Church in downtown Denver, Colorado exemplifies the Richardsonian Romanesque style through its monumental design by Frank E. Edbrooke, constructed in 1891–92. The church's nearly square footprint features four towers with crossing gables of equal height, its massiveness conveyed through enormous scale and extensive Colorado sandstone laid in horizontal bands reminiscent of Richardson's later work. The walls rise with minimal ornamentation, creating a spare and coloristically unified effect, while the towers display distinctive thin lantern openings crowned by ogee arches. Built as an offshoot of First Presbyterian Church of Denver (founded 1860), the Central Presbyterian congregation took its name in 1874. Documented by the Historic American Buildings Survey in 1969 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, the building represents one of Edbrooke's three finest works, designed late in his prolific career.
