The Chapel of Saint Ignatius of Loyola is a side altar and presbytery within Salvador's Basilica Cathedral, constructed in 1745 during the height of Portuguese colonial Brazil. Executed in the exuberant Rococo and Baroque styles, the chapel showcases the ornamental richness characteristic of that era, with gilded surfaces adorning its dimension stone and wooden elements. As a subsidiary altar space dedicated to the founder of the Jesuit order, it reflects both the spiritual influence of the Society of Jesus in colonial Bahia and the elaborate decorative vocabulary that defined sacred architecture in eighteenth-century Brazil.
