Christ the King Cathedral in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, is a Catholic cathedral currently under construction and designed by renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer. Commissioned in late 2005 and completed in design by mid-2006, the cathedral will serve as the headquarters of the Archdiocese of Belo Horizonte and is dedicated to Christ the King, following a dedication chosen by Bishop Antonio dos Santos Cabral upon his arrival in 1922. Located on Cristiano Machado Avenue in the northern part of the city, the cathedral represents Niemeyer's latest project for Belo Horizonte. Construction began in 2013 with funding from donations and was originally expected to be completed by 2020, though work remains ongoing.
