Cinecittà, a vast film studio sprawling across 400,000 square metres in Rome, was constructed in 1937 as part of the Fascist regime's effort to revitalize Italian cinema and rival Hollywood. Designed by architect Gino Peressutti in the rationalist style, it emerged as Europe's largest studio complex and the cornerstone of Italian filmmaking. The facility has hosted legendary directors including Federico Fellini, Roberto Rossellini, Luchino Visconti, and Sergio Leone, as well as international figures such as Francis Ford Coppola and Martin Scorsese. Over 3,000 films have been produced there, with 47 winning Academy Awards and 90 receiving nominations. By the 1950s, the concentration of international productions at Cinecittà earned Rome the epithet "Hollywood on the Tiber."
