Located in Alcalá de Henares, Madrid Province, the Círculo de Contribuyentes is a neo-Mudéjar building completed in 1890 by architect Martín Pastells y Papell. The structure embodies the ornamental vocabulary of Mudéjar revival style, which drew inspiration from medieval Islamic-influenced architecture of the Iberian Peninsula. Designed to serve as a social organization's headquarters, the building reflects the cultural and architectural tastes of late nineteenth-century Spain, when historicist styles were embraced for institutional and civic spaces.
