The Civic Center of Lima is a brutalist architectural complex designed by Carlos Williams León, José García Bryce, and Adolfo Córdova and completed in 1977 on the former site of the Lima Penitentiary. Built to serve as a civic-urban landmark, the complex houses State offices, a hotel, and a convention center. Its main tower rises 109 meters, a record height for Peru that stood for 34 years until the Westin Hotel in San Isidro surpassed it in 2011. Located adjacent to the Paseo de los Héroes Navales, the complex exemplifies Peru's mid-twentieth-century modernist ambitions through its bold geometric forms characteristic of brutalist design.
