The Clock Tower of Giurgiu is an Ottoman watchtower built between 1770 and 1771 in the Romanian town of Giurgiu, strategically positioned on the Danube River at the border with Bulgaria. Originally constructed as a military watchtower for surveillance of the city and river—assets vital to Ottoman control of the region—the structure was repurposed in 1830 as a fire lookout and clocktower. Designated a historical monument of national importance by the Romanian Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the tower has become the emblematic symbol of both Giurgiu and Giurgiu County, appearing on the county's official seal.
