Designed by McKim, Mead & White and completed in 1903, the Colony Club stands as a Colonial Revival masterpiece in Manhattan that broke new ground as the first social club established in New York City by and for women. Founded by Florence Jaffray Harriman, the institution was deliberately modeled on the city's prestigious gentlemen's clubs, asserting women's claim to equivalent spaces of social and intellectual fellowship. Originally exclusive to women, the club has since evolved to admit men as guests. Designated both a New York City Landmark and a place on the National Register of Historic Places, the Colony Club remains an enduring symbol of early twentieth-century women's advancement and architectural refinement.
