The Dule Temple, located in Jizhou District of suburban Tianjin, is a Buddhist temple of exceptional historical and architectural significance. Its most remarkable features are two timber-frame structures dating to the Liao dynasty—the front gate and the central hall—which rank among the oldest surviving wooden buildings in China. The central pavilion houses a monumental clay statue of Shiyimian Guanyin, the eleven-headed form of the Bodhisattva Guanyin. Recognized as a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level, the temple was designated to China's National Priority Protected site list in 1961 as part of the 1st Batch of such designations.
