The Edificio Carrión, also known as the Edificio Capitol, stands at a prominent corner where Madrid's Gran Vía intersects Calle de Jacometrezo, near Callao Square. This 54-metre-high structure, completed in 1933, exemplifies the expressionist strand within Spanish rationalist architecture and has become an icon of both the avenue and the city. Designed by Vicente Eced y Eced and Luis Martínez-Feduchi—architects influenced by the November Group and the work of Erich Mendelsohn—the building blends Art Deco and expressionist aesthetics in marble. Construction began in April 1931 and concluded with the building's inauguration on 15 October 1933. The distinctive façade has featured prominently in Spanish cinema and culture, and in 2018 the building received the designation of Bien de Interés Cultural.
