Edisto Beach State Park, located 50 miles south of Charleston in Colleton County, South Carolina, was established in 1935 as a state park designed in the National Park Service rustic style. The park features South Carolina's longest system of handicapped-accessible hiking and biking trails, which traverse the maritime forest of Edisto Island and provide access to historical and archaeological sites including a Native American shell midden dated to 2000 BC and a survey monument placed by Alexander Bache in 1850. Visitors may engage in surf fishing, boating, birding, and picnicking. The Edisto Interpretive Center serves as the park's education hub, offering programs and research services alongside interactive exhibits focused on the ACE Basin estuarine reserve.
