Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park, a nearly 2,400-acre state park located in Clay County between Gainesville and Jacksonville, represents one of Florida's earliest state parks. Built beginning in 1935, the park's structures—including cabins and other amenities—were originally constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930s in the National Park Service rustic style, which characterized CCC projects across the country. The park encompasses rolling sandhills, marshes, ravines, lakes, and scrub landscape, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2020.
