The Essex Town Hall and TOHP Burnham Library, located at 30 Martin Street in Essex, Massachusetts, is an exuberant Shingle Style structure completed in 1893–1894 by Boston and Malden architect Frank W. Weston. Built as a gift from the estate of T.O.H.P. Burnham, a native of Essex, the building combines municipal and cultural functions beneath a unified roof. Its lower story is constructed of field-stone while the upper portion and tower are timber-framed, characteristic of the style. The interior features antique oak finishes with brown and yellow wall hues. The upper floor contains a town hall seating 550 with stage and gallery for entertainments; the lower floor dedicates half its space to the public library, capable of housing several thousand volumes, with the remainder devoted to town offices. A clock with chime-bells in the tower, also a gift from L. G. Burnham, strikes the hours. The building was dedicated on February 15, 1894, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
