Built in Nashville in 1952 to designs by the local firm Marr & Holman, the Estes Kefauver Federal Building and United States Courthouse is a modernist structure that originally served as a federal courthouse and office building for the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee. Named after U.S. Senator Estes Kefauver, the building was expanded with a nine-story annex completed in 1974. Following the opening of the nearby Fred D. Thompson U.S. Courthouse and Federal Building in 2022, the Courts and federal offices relocated to the newer facility, with the General Services Administration planning to repurpose the Kefauver building to house other federal agencies.
