Located at 750 Missouri Avenue in East St. Louis, Illinois, the Melvin Price Federal Building and United States Courthouse is a Beaux-Arts structure designed by Supervising Architect James Knox Taylor and completed in 1909. Originally serving as the city's main post office while continuing to house the courthouse for the Southern District of Illinois, the building displays characteristic classical ornamentation: a projecting pavilion above the front entrance with four pairs of columns supporting a pediment, corner quoins, alternating arched and pedimented windows on the second floor, and a decorative cornice with balustrade. The three-bay arcade beneath the pavilion once framed the courtroom windows. Two matching wings were added in 1918, followed by a modern annex on the rear in 1986. The building was named for U.S. Representative Charles Melvin Price and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.
